Thank you for expressing an interest in joining the governing body of Truro and Penwith College.
The College has a strong local and national reputation for excellence. It has experienced remarkable growth and success through focusing intently on the needs and interests of its learners, whether those in the 16-19 phase of education, or at degree level, or in adult education, or in apprenticeships and our other support for businesses and employers. It now recruits from and serves the whole of Cornwall, and many learners travel considerable distances to access its offer.
Governors are wholeheartedly committed to the College ethos and aims, and set a clear strategic direction. In a challenging environment, the College is doing and planning new things in response to learner demand and to the identified wider needs of Cornwall. These include its work as a Teaching School, as an Academy Trust founder, as The Maths Hub for Cornwall, and as the preferred training partner to growing numbers of employers and businesses. It is also developing a completely new campus to better serve learners and employers in the north and east of the county.
Governors give a great deal to, and gain a great deal from, their work for the College. Excellent education and training not only change the life-chances of individuals, they determine the social and economic fortunes of whole communities. That is the exciting and crucial work we are engaged in at this College.
I hope that, after reading the enclosed information, you may consider applying to join us.
